The indictment accuses Khan of collaborating with three of his four children and a grandchild to provide “material support” to terrorists overseas. Among them: youngest son, Izhar Khan, a rising star at a Northwest Broward mosque who authorities say played a lesser role by once wiring cash overseas.
In the week since the arrest of the two men, members of both mosques and leaders of South Florida’s Muslim community have struggled to fit that militant image to the quiet, unassuming clerics they know.

Outside the courthouse Wahid expressed confidence his client will be exonerated. "There is no question that through this process we'll be able to vindicate Mr. Khan," Wahid told reporters. "I ask the public to keep an open mind."
"It goes without saying that he is a Muslim charged with terrorism and I am concerned about the presumptions the public may have about his guilt or innocence," Wahid said.
Asked about secretly taped telephone conversations the government said would provide evidence of a conspiracy, Wahid said, "We only have the government's side."
